Brockville – The 1000 Islands Community Development Corporation (TICDC) held its annual general meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, June 28th at the Brockville Country Club. It was also a chance for the organization to celebrate 35 years of providing loans to local companies who, on average, create five jobs that have lasted 10 years.
Close to 100 local dignitaries attended the special 35-year AGM which revealed the billion-dollar direct economic impact the corporation has had since it opened its doors in 1988.
That billion-dollar amount represents the amount of payroll that has been received by employees working in jobs that may never have existed without the support of the CDC. said Tom Russell, Executive Director of the TICDC
In total, over $40 million in loans have been handed out with an additional $200 million leveraged from other partners.
The TICDC has also given out over $14 million in various program grants, leveraging over $50 million from other partners and creating many jobs along the way.
The guest speaker was Samia O’Day, owner of Canada Music Academy, a local music school offering lessons to students of all ages and talent levels. The Brockville-based company is now a leading player on the global stage and O’Day credited the 1000 Islands CDC with helping her company grow.
As well five organizations that have received funding from the TICDC spoke about the impact of the TICDC on their respective organizations including the Rockport Customs House, the Aquatarium, the Thousand Islands Boat Museum, the 1000 Islands History Museum and the Canada 150 Gord Brown Memorial Outdoor Rink.
The TICDC also presented $10,000 to the 2023 Gord Brown Memorial Golf Tournament taking place at Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course on August 16th as the lead sponsor.
