Brockville – The Brockville Museum has announced new initiatives that they hope will enhance the visitor experience at the museum.

NEW Visitor Guide:

This handy full-colour tri-fold brochure enhances museum orientation with a map of the exhibit galleries and a short intro to each exhibit. Also included are links to resources to help you take your museum experience out into Brockville and back home with you. This guide is available at our front desk thanks to funding from the Friends of the Brockville and can be downloaded online at www.brockvillemuseum.com/visit for those looking to plan their visit.

NEW Guest Lockers:

Visitors travelling with bulky items such as backpacks now have access to a lock and private locker for the duration of their museum visit, in addition to our coat room rack. Simply check in with the front desk upon arrival. There is no charge for this service. For information about what is (and isn’t) permitted in the exhibit galleries, check out our Visitor Guidelines available at www.brockvillemuseum.com/visit

These new initiatives enhance existing resources and amenities:

  • Adhering to the museum’s accessibility plan, all our gallery spaces can accommodate wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers, with elevator access to the second-floor gallery. Please visit www.brockvillemuseum.com/visit for additional accessibility information, including our complete Accessibility Plan.
  • Although all our exhibit panels are printed in English, French-language translation of all exhibit text is available in each exhibit space.
  • There are a number of 2-hour free parking spots located on Henry Street and Kincaid Street near the museum, and the museum-adjacent municipal parking lot offers $1.50/hour parking.
  • For those cycling to the museum (after all, the museum is located on the Brock Trail), there is a bike rack located near the museum entrance.
  • For those visiting with children, our self-directed Discovery Pack offers activities to engage children in exhibit content with the help of their accompanying adult. Check in with our front desk to learn more.

Wayfinding signage:

Last fall we added signs throughout the museum to help visitors navigate our galleries and amenities.

Admission by donation / Pay-what-you-can admission:

We did away with set admission rates in 2016 in order to remove barriers to access and provide a more welcoming environment. Your admission donations remain vital to our operations and our ability to offer the services we do; we are grateful for the generosity of our visitors who have helped us grow both visitation and admission revenue since switching to this model in 2016.

Coming soon:

We continue to work on improving the visitor experience and are excited to share some of the improvements we have planned over the next six months.

  • 🚼 We will be adding a changing table to our washroom facilities.
  • 🚰 We will be installing a water bottle refilling station in our lobby.

Have questions about any of our visitor amenities? Please don’t hesitate to call or email us, or just ask at the front desk upon arrival. Our Visitor Services Attendants are also happy to provide visitors with tourist information to help enhance their visit to Brockville (or help local residents re-discover their hometown).

What services or amenities have you utilized on a recent museum visit? What is a service or amenity that we don’t currently have that would enhance your experience of the Brockville Museum?

We appreciate your feedback.
