The very first Brockville Braves game was played 60 years ago on November 1st, 1963!
Brockville – The Brockville Braves are celebrating their 60th year of playing hockey this year.
It was 60 years ago yesterday on November 1st, 1963 that the Braves defeated Arnprior 12-3. It was the Braves’ first game ever, Arnprior had already beaten Ottawa twice and Cornwall once.
The following was submitted by one of the combatants in that first game:
“We beat the 3 wins and 0 losses Arnprior Legionnaires 12- 3 in front of 950 fans. Duane Rutley had 3 goals and 2 assists. Doug Laforty and Rick Burton had 2 goals. Singles went to Don Snider, Joe Scott, Jovan Marich, Ron Reid and John Shorey. Shorey also had 3 assists and George Herbison had 4 assists. The coach was Ralph Hurley, GM was Jim Shields. Admission Adults $.75, Students $.50, Children $.25.”

There will be special guests and a pre-game ceremony including a special guest from the original Braves team from 60 years ago!
The Braves will host the Cornwall Colts. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
