Merrickville – The movie trailer for “The Liberation Men” in which roughly 60% of the movie was shot in Merrickville earlier this year has been released.
The movie, a Second World War drama primarily shot in Merrickville, depicts the Canadian military liberating a Dutch town.
Filmed in May 2023, this is an indie budget film inspired by a true wartime story. The release of the film is scheduled for May 5, 2024, in selected theatres during Dutch Liberation Week.
From IMDb “Canadian soldiers in Holland fight against German soldiers who refuse to surrender and they are in a race against the clock to save a town. Two soldiers must liberate a Dutch town held by 1,500 enemies before allied artillery shells start falling.”
The film was a collaboration between Kolo Productions Inc., a local independent company specializing in military films, and Dancing Dutchman Films from Toronto, with main photography concluding in the spring and some additional shoots taking place in the fall.
Roughly 60% of the movie was filmed in Merrickville, and another 20% just north of Kemptville, with Merrickville’s scenic old buildings providing an ideal backdrop for the film’s historical setting.
