OPP Investigating Multiple Bomb Threats on Wednesday

Locations In Northern And Eastern Ontario Targeted, No Actual Devices Found

Eastern Ontario – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating multiple bomb threats across parts of Northern and Eastern Ontario that occurred on Wednesday.

The threats targeted multiple schools under multiple school boards and other facilities, demanding payment. – OPP said in a news release yesterday.

One of the local French Catholic school boards was evacuated over bomb threats. Schools in the Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO), were evacuated, alongside numerous schools in northern Ontario.

As a precaution, many targeted schools and facilities were closed while the investigation continued. Parents were encouraged to contact their schools or school boards for more information. In addition to local officers, the OPP Cybercrime Investigations Team was engaged.

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB), said in a statement, that although no threats have been made to any UCDSB schools, it was taking additional precautions Wednesday.

“All external doors will be locked, which will be a change at our secondary schools, and extra attention will be paid to those who are seeking to enter the building,” the board said. “Students will also be kept indoors for the remainder of the day, however dismissals and pick-up routines will continue as usual.”

Opp says the public is always encouraged to report any suspicious activity that could be a risk to public safety.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
