UPDATE: Construction Worker Seriously Injured After Portion of Concrete Staircase Gave Way at Construction Site

Brockville – Brockville Police are reporting that a construction worker suffered serious injuries after part of a concrete staircase gave way at a construction site at 1481 Windsor Drive in the city just after noon on Wednesday.

Police say they received a call around 12:30 pm today about the incident at the multi-level building under construction and found that a portion of a concrete staircase had given way and had fallen, pinning one of the construction workers in the stairwell.

Brockville Fire Department and Leeds & Grenville Paramedics also responded to the scene, along with Brockville General Hospital staff, the Ottawa Fire Service and an Ornge Air Ambulance.

“Everyone came together and developed the best plan to assist the worker in need, with considerations being made regarding the structural integrity of the building,” said Inspector Darryl Boyd of the Brockville Police Service

After several hours, the worker was removed and taken to Kingston General Hospital by Ornge Air Paramedics with severe life-threatening injuries.

Police will remain on the scene, keeping it secure for a thorough investigation that will take place in conjunction with the Ministry of Labour. Windsor Drive between Centennial Road and Laurier Boulevard has now reopened for traffic.

“Thank you to all of the emergency responders who provided their assistance in this time of need.” Inspector Boyd added
