5 Newest Inductees Officially Inducted into the Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame on Friday

Brockville – The 31st Annual Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame Weekend began last Thursday evening with the annual Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame Kinsmen Awards Dinner held at the Memorial Centre. It wrapped up last Friday evening with the induction of five new inductees into the sports hall of fame.

At the Kinsmen Sports Awards Dinner on Thursday, Defenceman Simon Mack won this year’s Brockville Sports Person of the Year. Mack led Penn State to an NCAA Frozen Four appearance for the first time in the school’s history this past season.
The Sports Team of the Year went to the TISS Senior Boys Basketball team. The team finished this year with a record of 47 wins and just two losses.
As well, Janet Wynands won the Coach of the Year Award, and Vicki Sargeant won the Volunteering Award.
They also honoured this year’s five new inductees:
- Darren Burns (represented by his brother), a star with the Braves and a longtime coach at Acadia University.
- Kevin MacDonald with an enthusiastic 10-year career in minor pro hockey.
- Whit Prophet, a coach in high school gymnastics and track and field before devoting his time to the CCHL.
- Jacquelin Rasenberg, a talented multi-sport athlete at Brockville Collegiate, who starred in firefighter challenges.
- Stan Smith, a prolific 10-pin bowler who turned professional and worked tirelessly for the sport in Brockville.
Then on Friday, the five new inductees were officially inducted into the Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame.
Many returning Hall of Famers were in attendance at Friday’s ceremony.
