Forthton – Despite a battle with Mother Nature, the fans at the Brockville Ontario Speedway were treated to some great racing as the Empire Super Sprints were in town, plus a full card of racing in all classes. The fans and sponsors for the night, LA Knapp Construction, were treated to a great evening with plenty of action.
The DIRTcar Sportsman kicked off the night with a 25-lap feature, and Dominick Merkley was looking to end a long dry spell as he took the lead on lap three with Dylan Kirkland and Blake Smith there to challenge. Merkley and Kirkland were two of the fastest cars in the early laps as they pulled away from the field and put on a great battle for the lead. As the top two battled, Bobby Herrington was on the move as he charged to third with Matt Barbour and Gavin Eisele moving into the picture. Merkley continued to run strong with lapped cars and a fast-closing Bobby Herrington in the final laps. With 1 lap to go, Herrington closed in and used the outside lane for a big run at the leader coming to the checkered flag. On this night, it was not meant to be as Domonick Merkley ran a perfect caution-free race to win for the first time since 2022 at The BOS. Herrington crossed in 2nd with points leader Gavin Eisele third, Dylan Kirkland 4th, and Matt Barbour 5th.
It was a rough start in the 25-lap Empire Super Sprint feature as Lacey Hansen, Dylan Swernik, and Tyler Reynolds tangled on the front stretch on the opening lap. Once the race resumed, Jordan Poirier picked up the lead with Jason Barney and Logan Crisafulli making up the top 3. Poirier fended off many challenges from Barney in the early laps and pulled away as the laps clicked off. By lap 18, Poirier built up a big lead on the field while Barney tried his best to keep Poirier close, with Paulie Colagiovanni moving into the top three. Over the final laps, Jordan Poirier ran a perfect line, and the rest of the field would have to wait another day as Jordan Poirier scored his first Brockville ESS win and 2nd of the season in the first four races. Jason Barney, Paulie Colagiovanni, Logan Crisafulli and last year’s winner Davie Franek crossed in 5th.
Lee Ladouceur was the driver to beat in the early laps of the DIRTcar 358 Modified 30-lap feature event, with Terry McClelland and Kalen Draper with there with him. Draper was on the charge but slid off the track in turns 3 and 4, bringing out the yellow. When the race resumed, Tristan Draper was on the move from his 8th starting spot as he challenged Ladouceur for the lead. On lap 5, Draper charged out front and began putting on a clinic. Draper built up a nearly 3-second lead as Johnathon Ferguson was able to charge to second and was doing all he could to keep pace with the leader. As the laps clicked off, Tristan Draper got faster, and there wasn’t anything Johnathon Ferguson or third-place Lee Ladouceur could do as Tristan Draper extended his points lead, scoring his first win of 2025 and 8th 358 Modified win at Brockville. Ferguson crossed in second with Kyle Dingwall charging to third while Lee Ladouceur and Lucas Fuller completed the top 5.
Hayden Brown had not been to victory lane since July of last year and took the lead early in the 15-lap Mini Stock feature with Jarrod Galway and Jamie Larocque close by. Brown started to put a big gap between himself and the rest of the field as he pulled away. Behind the leader, a great battle went on between Galway, Larocque and opening day winner Clayton Celovsky, as they battled for a top 5 spot. As the laps wound down, Hayden Brown had a dominant race car and would go unchallenged in a caution-free 15-lap feature to grab win number one of the season. Jamie Larocque crossed in 2nd with Clayton Celovsky, Jarrod Galway and Marc Dagenais, the top 5.
Patrick Kudrinko has been one of the drivers to beat in the Novice Sportsman division, but the 12-lap feature on this night began with a scare on lap 2. Newcomer Cole Hanna lost control of his car in turn four, slamming the wall and flipping over. Hanna was able to get out of the car unhurt, but the car suffered heavy damage. On the restart, Kyle Kudrinko led the way, but on lap 6, Patrick Kudrinko took over the lead with opening day winner Tessa Riemersma charging to second. Over the final laps, Patrick Kudrinko would drive away to secure his third straight win with Riemersma crossing in second, with Kyle Kudrinko, Damien King and Cory Lambert completing the field.
Next week, the DIRTcar 358 Modified and DIRTcar Sportsman are back, along with Novice Sportsman, Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints and the Street Stocks. The green flag drops at 7 pm with RYCON Electrical as the night’s sponsor.
