Brockville – At City Council’s General Committee meeting held on Tuesday, July 15th, Brockville Police Board Chair King Yee, Jr and Brockville Police Chief Mark Noonan propose to establish a Police Services Reserve Fund.
The Police Board said the goal of the fund is to support financial stability and cover unexpected police costs, like major crimes or legal fees. The reserve fund would collect surplus money from police budgets, mainly from third-party criminal record checks.
This year, 2025 that revenue is expected to reach $1.5 million. However, they say this income can change due to market and legal factors.
The general committee postponed a decision on the fund so councillors would have more time to review the proposal, and they asked for a guarantee that the fund would also be used to cover any police deficits.
The committee sent the proposal back to staff for review. A new draft bylaw will be discussed in August.
