Brockville – Brockville Police responded to Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS) around 11:00 am on Friday, October 10th, after receiving a 911 call from school staff, where a student had reported that another youth was waiting outside the school with the intent to harm them, and in possession of a firearm.
Police stated that although no firearm had been seen at that time, school staff responded promptly and placed the school in a hold-and-secure.
When officers arrived on the scene, they secured access to the property and began a thorough search for any potentially armed individuals. The youth identified in the report was eventually located.
During the police investigation, it was determined that the claim of firearm possession was significantly exaggerated. The situation stemmed from a ‘frightening’ rumour that was misinterpreted as a credible threat, according to police. “No weapon was observed, and the youth in question was not found to have any type of weapon,” said police
“While police strongly encourage the public to report any concerns involving potential threats, we also urge individuals to ensure that the information provided is accurate and truthful,” police said in a media release. “Responses to such incidents require substantial resources and can cause unnecessary fear and disruption within the community.”
