Kemptville – At the October 21 Board Meeting, Principal of Curriculum Brenda Reil presented information on the CDSBEO Student Achievement and Action Plan (SAAP) to Trustees, highlighting board-wide strategies for improving student outcomes and well-being.
The SAAP focuses on three Ministry priorities: achievement of core academic skills, preparation for future success, and student engagement and well-being. Key goals include enhancing literacy through evidence-based instruction, advancing mathematics achievement with high-impact practices, and promoting French oral language proficiency using digital tools.
The board has implemented system-wide frameworks to ensure equity, consistency, and collaboration, with tailored plans for each school that align with central priorities. Monitoring progress involves analyzing multiple data sources, targeted professional development, and ongoing feedback to refine strategies. The plan emphasizes data-driven decision-making, collective accountability, and a shared commitment to supporting diverse student needs, professional growth, and continuous improvement across all CDSBEO schools.
“Based on the information presented this evening, it is clear that the board is deeply committed to ensuring every student at CDSBEO has the opportunity to thrive,” said Board Chair Chris Cummings. “We are proud of the collaborative efforts of our educators and staff to support learning success for CDSBEO students. Thank you for bringing this information forward tonight.”
CDSBEO Math Achievement Action Plan
Principal of Curriculum Brenda Reil shared a detailed overview of the CDSBEO Math Achievement Action Plan (MAAP), at the October 21 board meeting. The plan, which emphasizes mathematics as a cornerstone of student success, includes key priority actions, including ensuring curriculum fidelity through high-impact instructional practices, deepening educators’ math content knowledge, and personalized instruction and interventions to support math learning.
The plan highlights targeted support for priority schools and specific grades, with math facilitators collaborating directly with teachers. A cycle of ongoing assessment, intervention, and professional development guides progress, supported by diagnostic assessments and the use of digital math tools. School-based Catholic Professional Learning Communities (CPLCs) unite educators to analyze data, implement effective strategies, and foster collective responsibility for student outcomes.
Daily Number Talks and a tiered approach to intervention promote number fluency and equitable access. Regular monitoring, educator feedback, and collaboration with IT for technology integration are also in place to support the plan. The plan’s structure ensures data-driven decision-making, a culture of high expectations, and shared accountability, with the aim of improving math achievement and supporting the diverse needs of all students across CDSBEO.
