Brockville – Brockville’s Mayor Matt Wren will not be running in this year’s October municipal election. He made that announcement to not seek re-election on Tuesday morning at the Brockville Chamber’s annual Mayor’s Update and Breakfast at the Brockville Country Club.
“After eight years serving Brockville – four as councillor and four as Mayor – I have made the decision not to seek re-election this October,” said Mayor Wren in a statement. “It has been the honour of my life to serve this community. I am returning my full attention to a career I have spent a lifetime building, and to an exciting new chapter within it.”
Wren said that the demand of his profession, working in a growing senior role at Guaranteed Funeral Deposits and balancing that with his Mayor duties has made it difficult to maintain that balance.
“There is important work still to do and I will be fully committed to this city until my last day in office,” said Wren. “A more fulsome reflection will come in due course. For now – thank you Brockville.”
Wren will remain Mayor until the next municipal election which will be held on October 26th. So far there are no announcement of any candidates for Mayor or councillor positions.
