Leeds County – Reports of ongoing traffic violations received from members of the public contribute significantly to focused patrols, allowing officers to address specific driving complaints in a timely manner.
In early March 2026, members of the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received an online citizen’s report about ongoing reckless driving on highways in and around Lyndhurst. The concerns included tailgating, failure to signal, aggressive passing, speeding, and non-compliance within a posted school zone.
Officers were assigned to the affected areas and, as a result of their focused patrols:
- One driver was arrested for impaired driving
- 11 Provincial Offence Notices were issued
The OPP accepts online reports for certain types of occurrences. Visit www.opp.ca and click “Report Online”.
“We encourage members of the public to come forward with their driving complaints, and we wish to highlight those that already have. While our officers can’t be everywhere at once, these reports directly contribute to safer roads by assigning officers to specific areas when operations permit,” said Acting Staff Sergeant Bernie Onstein, Interim Detachment Manager.
If you witness dangerous or erratic driving behaviour, do not report it online. Instead, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. You believe you or someone else may be in danger, dial 9-1-1.
