Brockville Seasonal Watermain Flushing Program – Updated Work Area Schedule

Brockville – The City of Brockville Water Systems Division will begin the seasonal watermain flushing program starting April 1, 2026 and is expected to continue until September 2026.

This work will take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Why are we flushing the mains?

Watermain flushing is a critical part of our preventative maintenance program. It helps to:

  • Maintain high water quality by removing sediment and mineral deposits from the pipes.
  • Verify the proper operation of fire hydrants and ensure adequate flow for fire protection.
  • Improve the overall efficiency of the municipal water distribution system.

What to expect

While flushing is underway, residents in the immediate area may experience:

  • Temporary Discoloration: You may notice “cloudy” or “rusty” looking water. This is caused by the high-velocity water stirring up and cleaning out deposits. It is an aesthetic issue and does not pose a health risk.
  • Fluctuations in Water Pressure: You may notice a slight drop in pressure while crews are working nearby.

Recommended Actions for Residents

  • Check Before Use: Before doing laundry or using the dishwasher, run your cold water tap for a few minutes to see if the water is clear.
  • Clear the Lines: If you experience discolored water, run the cold water tap (preferably a laundry tub or bathtub without a screen) for 5–10 minutes or until it runs clear.
  • Avoid Hot Water Use: Try to avoid using hot water while the water is discolored to prevent the discolouration or sediment from entering your hot water tank.

Work Area Schedule

Flushing will occur in stages across the city.

Currently, crews will be moving in to areas north of Reynolds Drive between North Augusta to Oxford avenue.

To date, crews have completed all hydrants south of Highway 401 and west of Park street, along Bethune Street, moving eastward from King Street to Highway 401.

We appreciate your patience as we perform this essential maintenance to ensure the continued delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water.
