Brockville – The Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the recipient of the 2026 Business Person of the Year Award to Wajahat Khaleeque at the 67th Awards of Excellence Gala.
Over the past six years, Waji has grown Sunset Grill into a well-loved Brockville business. Following its success, he expanded by opening Mary Brown’s Chicken, which has also become a thriving local business. Most recently, he announced plans to open a third business in Brockville, further demonstrating his confidence in the community and commitment to local economic growth.
Waji leads with integrity, professionalism, and a people-first approach. He is known for treating his employees like family, supporting their growth, and creating a positive workplace built on teamwork, accountability, and exceptional customer service. Many members of his team have been with him since the beginning, reflecting his commitment to developing people and fostering long-term success.
Beyond his businesses, Waji is an active supporter of the Brockville community. He regularly contributes to local charitable initiatives, including fundraising efforts for the Brockville and Area Food Bank, Loaves and Fishes, the Salvation Army, the Canadian Cancer Society, BHRR Animal Rescue, Vanier Public School, the Brockville Sports Hall of Fame, and the Brockville Braves. He also supports local high school co-op programs and has consistently donated proceeds to help address food insecurity in the community.
Waji’s commitment to Brockville extends through his volunteer leadership as a member of the Board of Directors of the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber’s Programming Committee, and the Brockville Buzz Squad. His leadership, generosity, and investment in Brockville demonstrate that business success and community impact go hand in hand.
We look forward to celebrating Business Person of the Year, Wajahat Khaleeque, at the 67th Awards of Excellence Gala hosted at the Brockville Country Club, where we will also be announcing the recipients for: Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Community Excellence Award, the Tourism Award, and the Ben TeKamp Award.
