Eastern Ontario – The YMCA of Eastern Ontario is celebrating a successful first YMCA Community Classic, raising $223,623 in support of programs and services that help individuals and families across the region thrive.

Held October 5 at the Cataraqui Golf & Country Club, the sold-out tournament welcomed 144 golfers for a day of golf, community and giving back.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made the Community Classic such a success,” said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “The funds raised will have a meaningful impact in communities across Eastern Ontario, helping the YMCA provide opportunities for children, youth, adults and families to be active, build connections and access the programs, and supports they need, regardless of their financial circumstances.”

Funds raised through the Community Classic support the YMCA of Eastern Ontario’s charitable work throughout the region, including financial assistance for YMCA memberships and programs, access to summer camp, youth recreation and leadership opportunities, and community-based programs such as Work Hard Eat Well, which combines physical activity, nutritious meals, food skills and mentorship for local youth.

The YMCA extends a special thank you to Pete Sauerbrei, Graham Coe and the entire team from Cityflats, the tournament’s Title Sponsor, for their leadership and commitment to making the Community Classic a success.

“Cityflats believed in this event from the beginning and helped us build something very special for the communities we serve,” said Adams. “Their leadership, generosity and commitment to the YMCA helped bring together an incredible group of sponsors, golfers and community partners. We are tremendously grateful for their support.”

The day was made especially memorable by the support of Gord Sinclair and Paul Langlois of The Tragically Hip, who joined golfers and community partners in support of the YMCA. The tournament also welcomed Kingston Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper, Captain Vann Williamson and Alternate Captain Andre Mondoux.

“We were incredibly honoured to have Gord and Paul join us for such a special day,” said Adams. “Their connection to the region and support of community made their participation especially meaningful.”

The YMCA thanks every golfer, sponsor, donor, volunteer and community partner who contributed to the success of the tournament.
