Mississippi Mills – The Champions for Kids (C4K) Foundation has received a $30,000 donation from the Al Potvin Family Foundation to support Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) students at four schools in the Mississippi Mills area.

Chris and Paul Potvin presented a cheque to C4K President Laura Oliver on September 29. The $30,000 donation will support students at Almonte District High School, Naismith Public School, Pakenham Public School and R. Tait McKenzie Public School, with funding distributed based on student need.

For 25 years, Al Potvin’s company built play structures for communities throughout the area. His commitment to the community extended beyond his business, often using his skills to help with local needs, including building platforms and stages.

“Al was a true community builder in Mississippi Mills, and the fact that his children continue his legacy with such love and respect is absolutely amazing,” said Oliver. “Their generosity is making a real difference for students and families in the community.”

The Al Potvin Family Foundation supports children and youth in three main areas: academic reinforcement, including tutoring and virtual lessons; counselling and therapeutic supports; and career and life opportunities, such as sports and music equipment and career planning.

“Working with C4K, we know they understand where the needs are and can make sure the funding goes where it can have the greatest impact,” said Chris Potvin.

“We know students and families need support in many different ways, whether it’s tutoring, life experiences or opportunities to participate in sports,” Potvin added. “Knowing we’re able to help students who need that extra support is a great feeling.”

The Al Potvin Family Foundation has partnered with C4K for the past five years, contributing approximately $120,000 to support students in Mississippi Mills during that time.

The UCDSB’s Champions for Kids Foundation supports students and their families. The Foundation provides funding for activities, such as sports and music lessons, so that students can explore skills and talents outside of school and connect with their community. The Foundation also helps families who are experiencing unforeseen challenges to help alleviate the stress.
