Elgin – Last Thursday, local MPP Steve Clark met with the team at Country Roads Community Health Centre to hear more about the $19,500 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation that was used to complete important foundation repair work at Guthrie House. The project will help keep this well-used community space safe, welcoming, and available for people who rely on local health, social, and community services.
“Ensuring residents have access to essential health and social services close to where they live is vital in our rural communities,” said Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “With this $19,500 Capital investment, the Ontario Trillium Foundation is supporting necessary repairs and maintenance at Guthrie House. This grant will help ensure it remains an important community hub for the people of Elgin and the surrounding area.”
The funding supported foundation repair work at Guthrie House, a historic building located at 10 Perth St. Elgin, ON. The project included installing jackposts and support beams in the basement to strengthen the building and extend the life of the facility.
Guthrie House is operated by Country Roads Community Health Centre and serves as a shared community hub for health, social, and community-based programs. The space supports programs and services such as community health work, mental health supports, social services, outreach, and other community-based services.
“This funding is an important investment in the long-term future of Guthrie House,” said Kerri Choffe, Executive Director of Country Roads Community Health Centre. “By completing this repair work, we are helping to protect an important community space and ensure that residents can continue to access services and supports close to home.”
Country Roads Community Health Centre is a community-governed, not-for-profit organization that provides integrated primary health care and community-based services to residents of rural Eastern Ontario.
