Augusta Township Unveils New Community Garden

Augusta – The Township of Augusta is pleased to announce the unveiling of its new Community Garden, a space that supports local pollinators, provides educational opportunities, and allows residents to grow their own fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

The garden brings together environmental education and community involvement, allowing residents and students to learn about gardening, pollinators, and their role in our local ecosystem.

With guidance from the Augusta and Area Butter-flyway Committee, pollinator-friendly plants have been selected to support local pollinators and help visitors learn about their importance.

The Community Garden sign also features a unique I-Spy game, inviting visitors to look at both sides of the sign to find pollinators and learn while exploring the garden.

Garden boxes will be available to rent next spring, allowing residents to grow their own fruits, vegetables or flowers, whether they are experienced gardeners or just getting started.

Education has been an important part of the project. Students from South Grenville District High School helped build the garden boxes, and the Township hopes to continue this partnership and explore future opportunities with the high school and local public school for hands-on learning about gardening, pollinators and the natural environment.

The project was brought forward by the Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee with support from several community partners. The Township thanks its Public Works Department for sourcing and placing the rocks surrounding the garden and helping install the new sign. Community Futures Grenville also supported the project through its acceptance of the Township’s grant application.

Distinct Landscape Group helped design the garden logo, incorporating the Township of Augusta’s “A”, and assisted with the landscaping pathway design alongside Steve Polite.

The Township of Augusta looks forward to seeing the Community Garden grow into a space where residents can connect with nature, learn new skills and enjoy gardening together.

The Township thanks everyone who helped bring this project to life and looks forward to seeing the garden develop over the coming seasons.
