Brockville – This week’s TBT, Brockville’s Court House Avenue was transformed into a wintery wonderland for the filming of a holiday movie. So this week’s #TBT celebrates this iconic Brockville streetscape with this archival photo from around 1900.
Prominently featured in this scene is the Brockville Business College (c1889-c1967), located on the second floor of the Fulford Block. The Fulford Block itself was built in 1889 but suffered a devastating fire in 1916 that caused the roof to cave in. But the building itself was saved, and the top floor was rebuilt, albeit in a more conservative style.
The greatest difference between this photo and now is the lack of War Memorial and Fountain. The Fountain was added in 1917, a gift from the family of the late John.
Harris Fulford (a former Mayor). It underwent repairs and reconstruction in 1977 and again in 2000. The War Memorial was added in 1924.
