Leeds and Grenville – September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, and we’re excited to celebrate the incredible impact of mentorship in our community. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville is proud to spotlight the powerful, positive change that mentoring brings to local youth.
“Mentoring can have profound impacts on children and youth in our community who are facing significant challenges by providing them with guidance, support and resources they may not otherwise have access to,” said Bev Heuving, Executive Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville. “Last year alone, our organization supported over 300 young people through our mentoring programs, helping them build resilience and reach their full potential.”
Our findings are compelling—youth who participate in mentoring programs show remarkable benefits:
- 60% more likely to report feeling consistently happy.
- 45% more likely to feel consistently confident.
Our programs are making a measurable difference right now:
- 72% of mentees reported that their mentor helped them tackle tasks and achieve goals.
- 85% of mentees felt that their mentors genuinely listened to and valued their ideas.
