Brockville – On October 24, 2024, at about 11:00 am, police received a 911 call regarding a 15-year-old, female in crisis. Information was that the youth was in the area of King St. E., making threats to jump off of the cliffs along the St. Lawrence River edge.
Officers quickly responded and located the female at the cliff edge along the waterfront, on West Fulford Place, behind the Fulford Mansion. Officers began speaking with the female in an attempt to convince her to come to safety. During the negotiation, the female left the cliffs
edge, falling into trees, and into the water. The drop was approximately fifteen to twenty feet.
Once she jumped, officers quickly attended down below and entered into the frigid, shallow water to rescue her. Luckily, the female received only non-life-threatening injuries. She was uncooperative with police and had to be carried back to safety. She was then transported to the hospital and is now connected with recourses.
The fast response and actions of the officers should be recognized, along with the assistance and preparedness of the Brockville Fire Department and Leeds Grenville Paramedics.
