Brockville – Representatives from Alectra Energy Solutions and Kruger Energy shared a presentation with Brockville City Council at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

The presentation was about a proposed five megawatt solar project at the City’s 1000 Islands Regional Tackaberry Airport. Alectra Energy Solutions is a municipally owned utility with a portfolio of over 100 distributed generation sites in Ontario consisting of solar, natural gas and energy storage.

As well as members of the Airport Commission were also present at Tuesday night’s meeting and spoke in favour of the proposal.

The proposed project is intended to respond to the Independent Electricity Systems Operator’s call to meet growing electricity demand across the province through the development of new energy and capacity projects.

A public meeting was held in Elizabethtown/Kitley on Thursday, September 4, where the same presentation was provided. As the airport is located within the Township and owned by the City, municipal support from both municipalities is needed for the project to continue through a number of approvals.

When and if municipal support is provided, and should the application to the IESO be accepted, several permitting and other steps will be required before commencing operations in 2029-2030.

City Council will consider a Municipal Support Resolution related to the proposed project at their next meeting scheduled for September 23, 2025.
