Local Man Facing Assault with a Weapon Charges After Stabbing on Monday

Brockville – City police say a 30-year-old local man is facing numerous charges, including assault with a weapon, after a stabbing incident on Monday, September 22, near the Lanark Leeds Grenville Mental Health and Addictions on Front Ave.

Police received the report of an armed man with a knife around 3:30 pm on Monday. Officers responded along with Leeds-Grenville Paramedics after it was confirmed another man had been stabbed.

Once on scene, police and paramedics assisted the victim. They say the scene was chaotic, with multiple individuals and witnesses present.

After fleeing the scene, the suspect got into a second altercation with a nearby resident and produced a can of bear spray, threatening to use it on the homeowner.

Police say the sirens from the initial police response caused the suspect to flee the area only a short distance until he was located and arrested without incident.

According to police, the man has a history of violent offences and was found to be in breach of two separate probation orders.

A police investigation revealed that the suspect was also in possession of various other items, including bear spray and multiple knives, one being a butterfly knife. As well, the man was also subject to 6 different weapons prohibition orders at the time of the stabbing.

Officers secured the scene for several hours while investigators collected evidence.

Police also stated that during this time, emergency services also responded to a separate report of three overdoses occurring at the same location, further complicating the investigation.

The victim sustained two stab wounds, one to the arm and one to the torso, and was
transported to Kingston General Hospital. While the injuries are serious, the victim is currently in stable condition, according to police.

The suspect was held in custody for a bail hearing and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Six counts of possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to the prohibition
