
Brockville – The 21st annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run & Ride (NPOMR)- the “Run & Ride to Remember” made its annual stop in Brockville on Friday evening at Court House Green.
The run and ride is held each year before the annual Canadian Police & Peace Officers Memorial Service held on Parliament Hill on Sunday to honour the brave officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The Ride to Remember started at the Ontario Police College in Aylmer, the riders pedalled 200 kilometres to Queen’s Park before heading to Ottawa. They arrived in Brockville about half an hour before the runners. They rode 700 kilometres over three days.
Then over 300 runners from across Canada & family members of the fallen, S.O.L.E. (Survivors of Law Enforcement), ran the 460 km route, which started out on Thursday at the Ontario Police Memorial at Queen’s Park. The run is held to raise awareness and raise funds for the Canadian Police and Peace Officers Memorial, honouring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
There was a brief welcome ceremony held on Courthouse Green with local dignitaries in attendance.
Members of the Brockville Police Service also participated in last week’s run and ride. Brockville Police Cst. Mike Serson, Sgt. Mark Chicoine, D/Sgt. Jamie Garvin, Inspector Laurie Bennett and Cst. Ian Branco participated in the ride, while D/Cst. Knezevic and D/Cst. Lafontaine participated in the run.
Saturday morning was the last leg from Brockville to Ottawa, and the runners left the city around 8:00 am.
The runners and riders then participate in the Canadian Police & Peace Officers Memorial Service on Parliament Hill on Sunday.
