
Elgin – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian on Highway 15 near the village of Elgin in the Township of Rideau Lakes.
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Leeds OPP received reports that a pedestrian was struck by a moving vehicle travelling southbound. The pedestrian, a 43-year-old man of Kingston, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle is described as an SUV; the driver was not injured.
The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team is assisting with the investigation. This includes the OPP’s Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit (TCI) and an OPP Collision Reconstructionist. The highway remained closed for several hours, allowing for a thorough and complete investigation. The highway has since reopened. No charges have been laid at this time.
The deceased’s identity will not be released to safeguard the privacy of the grieving family. A postmortem examination has been ordered and will be conducted in the near future.
