Brockville – The Brockville Police Service would like to advise the public of recent changes announced by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) regarding provincial driver’s licence suspensions related to impaired driving.
Effective January 1st, 2026, the length of a roadside driver’s license suspension has increased. If you register a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) between 0.05 and 0.08, police can suspend your licence immediately.
Immediate roadside licence suspensions have increased from three days to seven days for a first-time occurrence and from seven days to fourteen days for a second-time occurrence. Further, significantly stronger penalties will be imposed for repeat impaired driving offences and fatal collisions.
These changes are intended to strengthen road safety measures and further deter impaired driving across the province.
The Brockville Police Service reminds drivers that impaired driving remains a serious criminal offence. Drivers are urged to plan, arrange a sober ride, or use alternative transportation options.
