Athens – A tight, low-scoring affair ended with a shootout winner as Athens edged Richmond on home ice.
After a scoreless first period, Richmond opened the scoring midway through the second when Remy St. Amand capitalized on the power play, finishing a play from Ethan Fleming and Nicholas Milbury. The Royals doubled their lead later in the period as Gavin Landry found the net off a feed from Daniel Sciarra.
Athens responded before the second intermission, with Parker Kealey cutting the deficit to one on the power play, assisted by Alex McGlade and Finnley Panciuk.
Late in regulation, with the goaltender pulled, the Aeros found the equalizer. Zachary White scored with under a minute remaining, converting a setup from Garritt Palmer and Rylan Boyer to force overtime.
The extra frame solved nothing, setting up a shootout where Cam McNulty provided the lone goal, giving Athens the extra point.
Nicholas Periard was strong in net for Athens, earning the win, while Sam Nolan took the shootout loss despite a 44-save effort for Richmond. Athens moved to 13-19-4-1, while Richmond fell to 17-20-0-3.
