Brockville – This past Tuesday, April 7th was Bruce Wylie Day in Brockville, as the long time radio personality worked his last morning show and formally retired after 55 years on-air and at the same radio station.
Video News Story Below:
Bruce’s last show consisted of no format, just friends and family stopping by the studio to chat with Bruce. He also only played 4 songs.
At times on Tuesday morning, there was a line up of friends family waiting to talk with Bruce on his final on-air show.
As Bruce has stated, 55 years ago on Tuesday, April 7th, a young, shy man turned on the mic for the first time at 1450 CFJR.
“I tried to imitate a big station, big voice announcer but Bill Inglis, the program director who came in and said you be yourself. I’ve taken that advice and been myself for all 55 years. Thanks to all of you who have listened and supported all my efforts.” said Bruce.
His final few minutes he was surrounding with family as he signed off the radio for good.
Later Tuesday evening the community came out to the Brockville Legion help celebrate Bruce’s retirement.

A number of people spoke about Bruce during the event including Wayne Rostad, Richard Grey, VP of CTV News, Jon Pole, President of My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) who presented a plaque to Bruce naming the studio Bruce worked in as the Bruce Wyle Studio, Brockville Mayor Matt Wren, who presented the key to the city for Bruce, City Councillor Jeff Earle, who presented Bruce a street sign, Bruce Wylie Way that was named by the developer of one of the new streets in the north end of the city, along with Dan Wylie, Bruce’s son, and Eileen Wylie, Bruce’s wife.
Bruce wrapped the party up with his thoughts.
Bruce will be missed on the radio, but will still be out in the community.
A lasting legacy on-air and off,
Thank you Bruce and happy retirement.
