Forthton – An earlier start time gave the fans some extra reasons to enjoy the racing action on Rycon Electrical night at the Brockville Ontario Speedway Saturday night. Double features were on the card for the DIRTCar 358 Modified and Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints along with a full regular card of racing on a hot night.
The start of the night paid tribute to long time Modified driver at Brockville Speedway, Stephane Lafrance, who passed away unexpectedly earlier in the week. Lafrance won 30 Modified features at the speedway, tied for third on the track’s all time Modified win list. His presence both on and off the track will be missed by friends, fellow drivers and the staff and Management at The BOS, a place “The Little Hammer” called home for much of his career. Lafrance collected an estimated 300 plus wins and several track and series titles across several local tracks, plus countless others as a crew member for his late father Marcel in the early years. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lafrance Family.
The evening kicked off with the held over Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprint feature from June 13th and Rick Wilson used his experience on this slick track to grab the lead with Adam Turner and Andrew Hennessy close by. Wilson had a fast car but the struggle was not the track or other drivers, it was front wings as Hennessy lost his in turn 1 forcing a yellow.
When the green flew Wilson was again in control and looked well on his way to the win. On lap 14 his front wing panel blew off causing the car to go too high in turn 4, catch the tire near the wall, sending his ride upside down. Wilson was not injured. This left Hennessy in front, who was able to secure his 3rd win in three events. Liam Ladouceur finished second with Adam Turner suffering front wing damage to get third.
In the regular feature it was a little more calm as Lee Ladouceur led Adam Turner and Andrew Hennessy early on. Ladouceur used the top side of the speedway through the entire 20 lap feature while Turner used the bottom lane while Hennessy closed to make it a three car battle. In the end Lee Ladouceur proved to be too much as he scored his first win of 2026. Over Turner and Hennessy.
Next up was the held over DIRTCar 358 Modified feature from June 20th and Shane Stearns led early over Kevin Hamel and Kyle Dingwall. Stearns looked to be the car to beat as he pulled away from the field and looked to be on his way to a sure win. Bobby Herrington was using the outside lane to make his way forward, getting by Hamel for the runner up spot on lap 13 but still had a long way to go to catch Stearns, who held a 2 second lead. On lap 23 a quick yellow flew which bunched the field up for a key restart.
When the green flew Herrington would use the outside lane in turns 1 and 2 to grab the lead while Tristan Draper began to move in on Stearns. In this one Bobby Herrington would make his return to the Modifieds a successful one getting an emotional first win of 2026. Shane Stearns crossed 2nd with Tristan Draper third. In the regular 30 lap feature Kyle Dingwall was the man in front with Chris Raabe and Kevin Hamel not too far behind in the top 3. Dingwall had a great car on this night and was looking to get back to the winners circle nearly a year ago to the day but Raabe was on the move and closing fast.
By lap 18 Raabe had closed in on the leader but Dingwall, using the outside lane stayed in front, while Bobby Herrington was making a late charge taking third place from Kevin Hamel. Over the final laps Kyle Dingwall used all his experience and more to hold off Chris Raabe and Bobby Herrington for an emotional win, the first of the season and first since the passing of his father Chico Dingwall in the off-season.
In the 15 lap Street Stock feature Francis Gauthier led early with Kyle Massey in the Bushey Racing X15 right there to challenge. Massey borrowed the ride from the team after his own car experienced motor issues at Cornwall last week and was working on the leader. On lap 4 Massey took the top spot but Brad Taillon and Bruno Boivin were making their way forward to the 2nd and 3rd spots as they tried to keep pace with Massey. With three to go Massey looked well on his way to the win before Bruno Boivin spun off turns 3 and 4 setting up one last shot at the leader. On the restart Brad Taillon got a great jump and made a bid for the lead as Kyle Massey spun in turns 3 and 4 ending his chances for victory. When the green flew Brad Taillon would hold off Stephane Philippe to record his 2nd win in a row, with Brett Horner, Todd Raabe and Francis Gauthier the top 5.
In the 25 lap DIRTCar Sportsman feature it was all about the win as the DIRTCar Sportsman Series race was in Drummond and with that, each Brockville driver that attended the series race was given show up points along with the drivers who attended the regular scheduled event at The BOS Saturday night. Domonick Merkley jumped into the early lead with Jeffrey Lapalme and Gavin Eisele the top three. Merkley remained up front and in control until lap 10 when Sylvain Dupuis lost a right rear tire ending his night as the caution came out. This gave Gavin Eisele and Jeffery Lapalme the chance they needed to take the lead.
On the restart Lapalme grabbed the lead with Eisele taking 2nd. As the top 2 raced to turn three Eisele saw an opening and snuck by on the bottom to take the top spot with Lapalme now 2nd and Domonick Merkley still third. Eisele was dominant on this night and looked to be well on his way to another in until the yellow flew on lap 17 for a scary collision as Damien King spun in turn four with Tessa Riemersma hitting him head on. Riemersma was helped out of the car but would be ok, King was able to drive away but both cars were badly damaged. On the final restart Gavin Eisele would make some great laps and march on uncontested to his third win in a row at Brockville in 2026. Jeffrey Lapalme, Dylan Kirkland, Dominick Merkley and Madie Wallace completed the top 5.
The final race of the night was the 12 lap Novice Sportsman event and Rhylan Poole was the driver to beat early with Landon Ryan and Garin Thompson right there to challenge. The top three had a great battle all race long as Poole began to pull away as the laps clicked off. Poole looked like he was heading for his first career win until a quick yellow flew on lap 11 for a key restart that would make for an exciting finish. When the green and white flew Poole stayed in front but Garin Thompson was right there to challenge. Heading into turn three Thompson made his move to the bottom as the two drivers made contact, both were able to march on with Thompson claiming his first of the year by a car length over Poole, Chris Wilson, Landon Ryan and Robby Harper.
Next week another full program is on the card with another 6pm start time. It will be double features again for the Mini Stocks from June 20th and the Novice Sportsman from June 13th. Hot laps take place for all classes at 5pm with the first of two make up features going green at 6pm.
