Brockville – The City of Brockville is pleased to announce the hiring of Joan Simon as Fundraising and Sponsorship Coordinator for the Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) project, where she will lead efforts to raise $5 million over the next two years.
Joan brings more than 35 years of experience leading charitable and community-based organizations in Brockville. Widely respected throughout the community, she is known for her creativity, passion, and ability to inspire others, earning a reputation as an exceptional leader and mentor.
Joan began her career in community fundraising and leadership as the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds & Grenville, a position she held for 17 years. During her time there, she worked closely with dedicated volunteers to grow the organization and expand its impact throughout the region. Joan was also involved in bringing the annual Ribfest event to Brockville, creating a signature community fundraiser that continues to be enjoyed today.
She later went on to serve as the Executive Director of the Brockville & District Hospital Foundation for another 17 years, where she helped lead some of the largest and most successful fundraising campaigns in the community’s history.
During her time there, the Foundation, alongside its fundraising cabinet, successfully raised $12.5 million to bring an MRI machine to Brockville General Hospital. Prior to that, the Foundation’s historic Under One Roof Campaign raised $20 million to support the construction of the Donald B. Green Tower at Brockville General Hospital.
Throughout her career, Joan has demonstrated an exceptional ability to bring together residents, businesses, organizations, donors, municipalities, and community partners in support of meaningful local projects. Her relationship-building skills and passion for community development have helped deliver lasting benefits for Brockville and the surrounding region.
A Brockville resident for more than 40 years, Joan has deep roots in the community she serves. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys walking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Joan is excited to begin this new chapter and support one of the City’s most ambitious community projects.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to support the Multi-Use Recreation Facility project,” said Joan. “We live in a community that is very giving, and I look forward to working with residents, businesses, organizations, and community partners to help make this facility a reality for Brockville.”
The City looks forward to working with Joan as fundraising efforts begin and invites the community to join in supporting a project that will provide recreation, wellness, and community-building opportunities for generations to come.
