Brockville – A new workshop hosted by the Brockville Museum this month will share practical tips for preserving old photographs and displaying paper-based objects at home.

This is the latest installment of a series launched last year, Preserving Your Family Treasures, which aims to help people understand their objects and how to prevent or slow the forces that cause them to deteriorate in a home environment.

This month’s workshop on old photographs will take place on April 26th, with two sessions to choose from 10 am-12 pm or 6 pm-8 pm. Registration is $20.

Participants will learn: how to identify five photographic types that are most common to have in a family archive; what causes deterioration for each type; the advantages and disadvantages of different storage materials; and where to source useful materials and additional resources.

Special guests, Hang Ups Creative Picture Framing will be on hand to discuss tips for framing and displaying paper-based objects to ensure long-term preservation. Participants will also have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and explore the museum’s own archival storage spaces and objects from the museum’s collection.

Space is limited. Contact the Brockville Museum front desk at 613-342-4397, or drop by, to register. The Brockville Museum is currently open Monday-Friday 10 am-4 pm.
