Brockville – The Brockville Concert Association is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year with ‘A World of Music’ a live classical, jazz and world music concert series on May 26th, August 19th and October 28th, 2023.

Brockville Concert Association’s President Samia O’Day guarantees a world of music.

“The BCA is celebrating a huge milestone in 2023,” says O’Day “It feels great to re-establish the magical connection between musicians and audiences in person again.”

The BCA is a small but mighty volunteer-run charity, passionate about sharing quality musical experiences and community participation for all.

Over the years, artists such as Glenn Gould, Yo-Yo Ma, Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, and Bobby McFerrin have performed in Brockville at the invitation of the BCA. Now, a new generation of artists is set to enrich and entertain audiences of all ages.

“We are so grateful for the dedication of the founders and all the volunteers who have contributed to the BCA over the past 75 years,” says O’Day. “To celebrate, we’re showcasing the many cultural influences that make up our diversity in 21st-century Canada. Why go elsewhere when we have a world of music right here at home!”

Three concerts comprise the 2023 series:

Kicking off the celebration is Juno award-winning and Grammy award-nominated band Sultans of String with their Refuge/Sanctuary project at the Brockville Arts Centre on Friday, May 26th at 7:30 pm.

The concert features newcomers to Canada, Indigenous artists and global talents who are ambassadors for peace. A free matinee concert for local schools takes place earlier in the day.

As well, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will attend the Sultans of String concert on May 26 at the Brockville Arts Centre.

The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell is the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. As the representative of His Majesty The King, Ms. Dowdeswell carries out constitutional and ceremonial duties and facilitates healthy citizen and community engagement. In addition to serving the public interest at all orders of government and in the private sector, she contributed globally serving as Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme. One of Ms. Dowdeswell’s areas of focus is Ontario in the World, and O’Day thinks the performance by Juno award-winning group Sultans of String fits well with Her Honour’s interests. “This concert highlights the group’s Refuge/ Sanctuary project.
