Brockville – A special ceremony was held on Friday afternoon to recognize five people for their heroic actions that helped save the life of a young woman at the YMCA of Eastern Ontario Brockville.

Timothy Williams, Ava Nordin, and Braelyn Hunter were on lifeguard duty on April 2nd, when they noticed someone was in distress in the pool. Their rapid response and professional training, with assistance from YMCA member Beth Typhair and YMCA guest Mylène Arseneault, allowed them to rescue an unresponsive young woman from the pool to perform immediate first aid, call for emergency services, and continue critical aid until first responders could arrive.

The five heroes were recognized by Michael Barrett, Member of Parliament for Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes and joined by MPP Steve Clark, Mayor Matt Wren, and YMCA of Eastern Ontario CEO Rob Adams to express their appreciation and celebrate the courageous efforts of the young lifeguards and facility members.

“I am honoured to have Timothy, Ava, Braelyn, Beth, and Mylène here to extend a heartfelt thank you for the incredibly selfless and heroic actions that helped save a life that day. In a terrifying situation where every single second counts, their exceptional life-saving efforts and heroism deserve to be commended. They are heroes in my eyes, they are heroes to our community, and we are deeply relieved for the happy outcome that was possible because of what they did. Their heroic actions along with the team of outstanding first responders, paramedics, police service, and fire department prevented a tragedy and saved a life that day,” said MP Barrett.
