Gananoque – Police reports from the Gananoque Police Service from April 7th to May 16th, 2023.

Criminal Harassment:

On April 7th, 2023 the Gananoque Police Service received a report of harassment. The 63-year-old male from Gananoque had been previously cautioned by police not to contact the victim. With further investigation, officers were able to form grounds and subsequently arrested and charged the male with Criminal Harassment and released him on conditions. The male will appear in court at a later date.

Arrest Warrant:

On April 8th, 2023, officers on patrol observed a male and a female outside a King Street East motel, seemingly in need of assistance. Both parties were transient and looking for help. During their interaction with officers, it became clear the male was lying to the police. Subsequent investigation determined the 42-year-old male had an active arrest warrant issued by Brockville Police Service. The male was arrested on the strength of the warrant and later released on an appearance notice with a future court date.

Bench Warrant:

On April 11th, 2023, a 30-year-old female from the Town of Gananoque failed to attend court at the required time. As a result, the Ontario Court of Justice issued a bench warrant which was executed by police the same day. The female was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Public Intoxication:

On April 12th, 2023, officers on patrol observed a male outside a King Street East business who appeared to be intoxicated by alcohol. Officers checked on the male and it was determined a friend was escorting him home. Approximately an hour later, the same intoxicated male was observed again, this time alone. When the male was exhibiting signs of extreme intoxication, the male was arrested for his safety under the authority of the Liquor License Control Act. He was held until sober and provided a Provincial Offence Notice for being intoxicated in a public place.

Trespassing/In Canada Illegally:

On April 20th, 2023, police responded to a report of an unwanted person at a King Street East motel. Upon arrival, significant damage to the property was observed. The 29-year-old male was located and arrested for Trespass to Property. Further investigation revealed the male was in Canada illegally and as a result, he was taken into custody by Canada Border Services Agency.

Uttering Threats:

On April 23rd, 2023, the Gananoque Police Service received a 9-1-1 call reporting a 37-year-old male outside a west-end residence, threatening the occupants. The male had departed prior to police arrival but attended the station shortly after. He was arrested and charged with Utter Threats and was released on conditions. He was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date.

Stolen Vehicle:

On April 27th, 2023, while on patrol, officers observed a vehicle parked unattended and the plate when run showed it did not belong to the vehicle. Upon checking the VIN, it was revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen to OPP. The vehicle was towed and returned to the owner. The investigation is currently held by the Ontario Provincial Police.

Stolen Utility Trailer:

On April 28th, 2023, officers received information regarding a stolen utility trailer. Officers attended and located the trailer, confirming the theft had been reported to OPP. The trailer was seized and the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing with the investigation.

Warrant:

On April 28th, 2023, officers observed a suspicious vehicle in the early morning hours outside of a King Street East business. A check of the vehicle determined the registered owner was currently wanted by Peel Regional Police. Officers located the owner nearby and the 30-year-old male from Mississauga was placed under arrest on the strength of the warrant. He was released with conditions, to appear in court at a later date.

Assault with a Weapon:

On April 30th, 2023, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a north-end residence regarding a domestic dispute in progress. Upon arrival, officers found the 80-year-old male victim bleeding from his face/nose area. As a result of further investigation, a 79-year-old female was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon and was held for a bail hearing.

Harassing Telephone Calls & Fail to Comply with Probation Order:

On May 2nd, 2023 officers responded to a William Street business regarding ongoing harassment. Statements made to police reported a 32-year-old Elgin man had been contacting the business via telephone and email, leaving numerous aggressive and unwanted messages. The male had been previously cautioned by police for the repeated communication, but the contact continued. As a result, the male was arrested and charged with Harassing Telephone Calls and Failing to Comply with Probation Order. He will appear in court at a later date.

Attempted Break-In:

On May 8th, 2023, the Gananoque Police Service received a report of an attempted break-in that occurred overnight at a Pine Street residence. Upon arrival, officers observed a rear door with burn marks in an obvious attempt to gain entry. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact police at 613-382-4422.

Theft & Forgery:

On November 7th, 2022, police received a report of a theft and fraud that resulted in the victim losing over $12,500. An extensive investigation was conducted, and upon conclusion, a 40-year-old male from Gananoque was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5000 x 2, Making Forged Document x 3, Using, Deals, Acts on Forged Document x 2 and Causing or Attempting to Use a Forged Document. The male was released with conditions and will appear in court at a later date.

Stolen Vehicle:

On May 11th, 2023, police received a report of a stolen vehicle, taken from a King Street East business between 2:00 am and 4:00 am. A 2019 black GMC Sierra Denali dually truck was taken by three males, who exited a small black SUV. If anyone has information regarding the theft of the vehicle, please contact police at 613-382-4422

Theft:

On May 15th, 2023, in the early morning hours, officers on patrol observed activity at a local King Street East business. Officers attended and spoke with staff who advised a theft had occurred
the night of May 14th and a substantial amount of video games were stolen. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 613-382-4422.

Police Help:

On May 15th, 2023, a complainant attended the station with a female refusing to pay her substantial taxi fare. Officers spoke with the 21-year-old female from Edmonton, and there were concerns regarding her well-being. As a result, officers provided the female with a place for the night at a local hotel and put her in touch with partnering services that ultimately assisted the female in returning home to Edmonton. The Gananoque Police Service would like to thank Victim Services and the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Community and Social Services for their assistance.

Warrant:

On May 16th, 2023, while officers were investigating another matter, officers located a 27-year-old male from Prescott currently wanted by OPP. The male was arrested on the strength of the warrant and held until OPP officers attended to assume custody.
