Two Separate Impaired Driving Arrests

On May 30, 2023 at about 4:00PM, police received a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of Parkedale Ave. and Ormond St. Officers attended and learned that a pedestrian was struck while in the crosswalk by a 75-year-old, male, operating his vehicle. The pedestrian was not seriously injured and did not require medical attention. While officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle, it was revealed that he had been consuming alcohol.

A roadside breath sample was taken and that test resulted in a fail. He then was placed under arrest and transported to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. There, it was confirmed that he was operating while impaired. He was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired – blood alcohol over 80mg. His driver’s licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Later at about 7:30PM, police received a complaint about a 16-year-old, male, operating a U-Haul truck and possibly impaired, in the downtown area. Officers attended and located the suspect vehicle in question. The vehicle was travelling in the area of King St. W. near John St., when the driver exited the vehicle and fled by foot through the Sheridan Mews tunnel.

Officers gave chase and closed in on the area. Shortly after, the male was located and arrested. The subject was taken for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert, where it was confirmed that the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs. He was later released with a future court date and charged with operation while impaired by drugs and multiple other Highway Traffic Act offences including driving without a licence.

Domestic Related Assault

On June 1, 2023 at about 2:00AM, police received a call regarding a male and female involved in a dispute in the area of King St. E. Police attended the area and located the male and female matching the description. Investigation revealed that the 25-year-old, male, had thrown a skateboard at the female and forcefully removed a backpack from her. The situation escalated to both becoming physical with one another.

The male was arrested for assault due to initial act in the altercation, with throwing the skateboard at the female. Upon searching the male, firearm ammunition was found in his possession. Police also learned that the male was currently on probation and also on an order prohibiting him from possessing ammunition. He was later released on conditions and a future court date after being charged with the offences of assault, fail to comply with probation and possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order.
