Most Municipalities Across Leeds & Grenville Have Issued Total Fire Bans As of Tuesday

Brockville – Most municipalities across Leeds & Grenville have issued total fire burn bans today as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has rated our area as “Extreme Fire Danger”, due to the dry conditions we are experiencing in our region.

List of Municipalities with Burn Bans as of Tuesday, June 6, 2023:

  • Brockville – total Burn Ban, includes St. Lawrence Park and City owned islands
  • Prescott – Total Burn Ban
  • Elizabethtown-Kitley – Total Burn Ban
  • Augusta – Total Burn Ban
  • Athens Township – Total Burn Ban
  • Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands – Total Burn Ban
  • Rideau Lakes/Westport – Total Burn Ban
  • Merrickville-Wolford – Total Burn Ban
  • North Grenville – Total Burn Ban

As well an Environment Canada-issued Special Air Quality Statement remains in effect today because of the forest fires in Quebec and Eastern Ontario.

They say high levels of air pollution have developed due to smoke from forest fires.

Smoke plumes from forest fires in Quebec and northeastern Ontario have resulted in deteriorated air quality. Poor air quality may persist through most of this week.

Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour.
