2023 Brockville Ribfest Raises Over $100,000 for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Leeds & Grenville – VIDEO

Brockville – The final numbers are not all in yet, but Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Leeds & Grenville’s (BBBSLG) Executive Director Bev Heuving says that it looks like they will have raised over $100,000 for the local agency from this year’s 21st Annual Brockville Ribfest held from August 10th to 13th, 2023 in Hardy/Centennial Parks.

She went on to say though that sales were down this year, probably due to the weather, but grants and sponsorships were up this year as well as registration for the Rib Eating Contest and the Volleyball Tournament which all helped to make up for the lower than expected sales.

“The money raised at this year’s Ribfest will go a long way to ensuring that we are able to support the children and youth in Leeds and Grenville in the coming year. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support of our community!” said Heuving.

Also, they estimated that they had over 12,000 people visit over the course of the four days.

This was the 21st year of the 4-day family festival that featured many things for the kids to do, live music on all four days and lots of food and other vendors on site.

As well the popular Howard Travel Rib Eating Contest was back on Friday, August 11th with 15 teams competing. They were vying for 3 awards, The Fastest, The Most Raised and the Best Team Spirit.

The Best Team Spirit Award went to the School of Rock. The Fastest Time Award went to the Usual Suspects with a time of 6:14 and the Most Raised Award went to the Miller Lowlifes who raised $700. The total raised for this year’s Rib Eating Contest was $2,912.

The second annual Ribfest Idol was held on Saturday with four individual musicians and one band vying for Ribfest Idol 2023.

They were Josh Killick, Gabrielle Salmon, Lyric Rogers, Jimi Martin and the Rising Resistors. Gabrielle Salmon came in third place followed by Lyric Rogers in second place and the winner of the 2023 Ribfest Idol was Jimi Martin.

The money raised at Brockville Ribfest is a large part of the BBBSLG’s operating budget to be able to facilitate the many programs the agency offers throughout Leeds & Grenville.
