A Win in the Books for Brockville Braves Saturday in CCHL – VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Brockville – The Brockville Braves won a 3-2 decision over the Ottawa Junior Senators on Saturday night in CCHL action in Ottawa.

Oh, What A Night! I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Stellar goaltending by Zane Spaniol, some great offensive efforts and boy oh boy, a big game by our D-Corps.

What a night, what a team. I mentioned that” Will to win”, was there Saturday night, throughout the complete lineup.

Captain Carolan goes “coastal” for the winning goal. He was the first man in on the puck after a bounce of the boards behind the Braves net. He avoided a check and slipped a pass to Ryan McNally, who in turn fed it back to Carolan who then sped up ice. A little dipsy-doodle (inside than outside) around a Sens defender then he buried the puck for the game-decider.

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS BELOW:

The Braves have a slew of 16-year-olds, and they all make a strong contribution, game in and game out. Saturday night 16-year-old Peter Legostaev notched his second goal in as many nights. His big body was just too much for the Sens defenders to clear out from the front of their net. He stood his ground and banged home the rebound for his 2nd CCHL goal.

Legostaev plays for the Smiths Falls Jr B team, where he has 15G and 25A for that team in 31 games. On Thursday he scored a pair of goals against the very strong Perth Blue Wings, then scored for the Braves on Friday and again on Saturday. A force to be reckoned with.

The Braves were operating with a shortened bench again last night, with only 4 guys on defence. For the second night in a row, they must have been exhausted, but never say die.

I did notice in the 3rd, and it may have been sooner, fan favourite Jesse Lumsden was taking a regular turn back on the defence. Utility man extraordinaire!

Matt Ward and his coaching staff have to be pleased with the team’s effort this weekend. The entire team appears to be buying into his coaching philosophy.

A solid team showing by everyone up and down the ranks.

Brockville will host the Smiths Falls Bears Friday night at the Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:30 pm.
