Council Approves Zoning Bylaw Amendments for New Housing at Two Locations in City

Brockville – Brockville – City Council approved zoning bylaw amendments at last Tuesday’s council meeting to allow two new housing projects, one for seniors and one for low-income.

City Council approved zoning bylaw amendments at last Tuesday’s council meeting to allow a new 5-storey, 65-unit apartment building to be built as part of the Royal Brock retirement Living Inc. at 100 Stewart Blvd. and the renovation and addition to the existing storage building located within the interior of the First Presbyterian Church site to create a three-story, 12-unit affordable housing apartment building at 10-16 Church Street owned by the church.

The new building at Royal Brock Retirement Living Inc. is to be built in the northern parking lot with underground parking.

The property is a very prominent site located at the gateway to the community. The report said that the development is utilizing existing services/infrastructure and will add to the mix of rental housing currently available.

At First Presbyterian Church, as part of this renovation, the demolition of 16 Church Street will occur to accommodate access to the new development.

“The Applicant proposes to build affordable housing which is greatly needed in the City of Brockville with the subject property’s location, adjacent to downtown and waterfront, the proposed development will provide many with a new home, close to amenities and services and will aid in the efforts to revitalize the downtown.” said the report
