
Gananoque – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after human remains were located on an island on the St. Lawrence River.
On Monday, May 19, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Leeds OPP responded to the island near Gananoque when an individual reported making the discovery.
The identity of the deceased has not been determined, and it is not known how long the individual has been deceased. A postmortem examination will be conducted.
The OPP does not believe there is any indication of a risk to public safety.
The Leeds County OPP Crime Unit is investigating, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit is assisting.
