Brockville – The city will be implementing an organics waste program sometime later this year.
This is in response to the Food and Organic Waste Policy Statement issued on April 30, 2018, by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, which focuses on waste reduction and resource recovery through preventing and reducing food waste and sets waste reduction and resource recovery targets, according to the city.
City staff recommended partnering with Orbis Canada Ltd. for the supply and distribution of special source-separated organics bins to those who currently receive curbside collection of waste.
Council approved the recommendation and the associated cost of $235,821.12 at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Staff will be planning education and outreach efforts to explain the changes to residents before the initiative is implemented.
