National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (NDTR) is this Tuesday

Brockville – The National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (NDTR), also known as Orange Shirt Day, is being held tomorrow, Tuesday, September 30th, across Canada and around our region.

Everyone is welcome to gather as people reflect on the legacy of residential schools, the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the 94 Calls to Action that guide us forward.

The Brockville event is being held in Hardy Park on Tuesday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Since 2021, this event has brought education, culture, and remembrance to the Brockville community. This year, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) Committee members and Siggy Leslie-Casselman, a founder of the newly formed Advocates for Indigenous Support (AIS) Committee, are proud to continue this important tradition. The AIS and NDTR committees are devoted to supporting Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members in Brockville and the surrounding area while also bringing awareness to Indigenous culture, history, and more.

The day will feature educational and cultural presentations from Algonquin, Mohawk, and Cree First Nations, and a vendor market featuring local Indigenous and non-Indigenous artisans.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Committee members have revamped the walk on the waterfront to reflect the completed Calls to Action.

Learning the truth about Canada’s history is a responsibility for all of us. In the wise words of Governor General Mary Simon, Canada’s first Indigenous Governor General, “Reconciliation is not a single act, nor does it have an end date. It is a lifelong journey of listening, learning, and building relationships based on respect.”
