
Elizabethtown-Kitley – An individual has been arrested and charged following a break-in just east of Brockville.
Members of the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a former shelter on Oxford Avenue shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026. A resident of the area had reported seeing someone enter the building through a window.
Leeds officers, along with members of the Brockville Police Service, surrounded the building and began a search inside, with assistance from the OPP Canine Unit.
An individual was located and arrested. Officers also found a large amount of property that had been moved to a doorway.
Jayce MATTHEWS, age 34 of Brockville, has been charged with:
- Break & enter with intent to commit an indictable offence,
- Mischief destroys or damages property
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Friday, January 2, 2026.
