Brockville – The Brockville Police wish to clarify the recent announcement from the Inspector General of Policing concerning a sector-wide inspection of police services in the wake of recent charges laid on Toronto Police Service members.
Recent social media posts have failed to interpret the facts correctly.
The Inspectorate of Policing came into existence with the enactment of the new Ontario Community Safety and Policing Act in 2024. The Inspectorate’s mandate includes oversight of Ontario Police Services. They provide guidance surrounding compliance with Community Safety and Policing Act Regulations and ensure adherence to ethical standards across Ontario’s policing system.
The inspection that has been announced is a review of all Ontario Police Services. It is not an “investigation” of a select number.
The Brockville Police Service welcomes this review of current policies, procedures, and practices. This is about identifying where safeguards can be strengthened. Ensuring public trust in your police service is paramount. It has always been a priority for the Brockville Police Service and I have every confidence in our members as they continue to serve the community of Brockville both ethically and professionally.
