Proponents urged to find alternative route that will not cause significant harm to local communities and families who built them over generations

Brockville — Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark today released the following statement regarding the Alto high-speed rail project:
I have heard from residents in the communities I represent who would be directly affected by the proposed southern route for the Alto high-speed rail project. I share their serious concerns about the harm it would cause to property owners, farms, sensitive environmental habitat, world-renowned heritage areas, and emergency service response. At the same time, proponents have not demonstrated what tangible benefits this route would bring to our region.
For those reasons, I do not support Alto’s southern route. I encourage the proponents and federal government to find an alternative route that will not cause such significant impact to these communities and the families who have worked hard to build them for generations.
