Brockville – From A Jack To A King. Ned Miller sang it correctly. The Brockville Braves bounced back from what might have statistically been their weakest performance of the year in that crucial game in Hawkesbury Wednesday night, to a crowd pleasing 3rd period surge to down the visiting Canadians 5-2, who were only a point behind them in the standings.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS (PxP by Jordan Hachey):
The game was highlighted by great goaltending at both ends of the rink. I think Austin Caley gets the “Tip Of The Hat” in that department. Meanwhile, the Braves’ high octane offence ignited in the 3rd and salted away this key game.
tHE “BROCK” line of Sled, Gill and Cuglietta had a great game. Sled “slid” an empty netter in, Gill scored one and almost had a seond when Charlie Larocque made an errant pass in front of his empty net but Cohen was unable to corral the puck and score. Carter Cuglietta, perhaps the most improved player over the season, had a couple of good whacks at the puck squeezed agaisnt the post by Larocque but it failed to go in.
Rhett Colson had a couple of strong offensive plays and then stood up a rushing CP forward at his blueline with a punishing hit.
My apologies to Jesse Lumsden, who skated miles last night along with some pin point passing, our camera man couldn’t keep up with you and missed your goal.
There is a real log jam for positions 5 thru 10 in the CCHL standings and thus he playoff pairings.
Friday night’s win:
* allowed the Braves to move 3 points ahead of the Canadians ( with 4 games in hand)
* allowed the Braves to pass the Cornwall Colts ( still have 4 games in hand ) for 6th place
* allowed Braves to move 2 points ahead of Renfrew
* allowed Braves to remain within reach of Navan ( 4 points with 1 game in hand)
It’s that time of year “Heart be still”.
