
Portland – An individual is facing criminal charges after being involved in a physical dispute on Highway 15 near Freeland Road.
On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, shortly after 11:00 p.m., members of the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a rear-end collision involving two vehicles.
The vehicle that was struck left the scene prior to police arrival. The driver who remained on scene sustained non-life-threatening injuries following a physical altercation with the driver of the other vehicle. He was transported to a regional trauma centre for medical treatment.
With the assistance of members of the public, police located a short distance away the heavily damaged vehicle that had fled the scene approximately one hour later. The driver was located and subsequently arrested.
As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Arian BARAKI of Caledon has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Dangerous operation
- Failure to stop after accident
- Driving while under suspension
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on May 29, 2026.
