GANANOQUE — Ontario is marking the groundbreaking of Carveth Care Centre, a long-term care home redevelopment project that will bring 104 modern long-term care beds to the community. This project, supported through the Capital Funding Program (CFP), is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by creating good-paying jobs and building for the future, while ensuring long-term care residents get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve.

“Our government is improving long-term care by building more homes, hiring more staff and making historic investments to support families and protect their loved ones,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Today marks a significant milestone for Carveth Care Centre. Once construction is complete, 104 residents in the Gananoque community will have a modern home where they can receive the care they need, when they need it.”

The redevelopment of Carveth Care Centre will modernize and expand the existing home in four construction phases that are expected to be completed in early 2029. The home is designed around three Resident Home Areas, each with their own dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms. The renovation will include enlarged bedrooms, separate bathroom facilities, improved staff service areas, an upgraded kitchen and an expanded administrative wing.

“This redevelopment is about more than a new building, it is about creating a home for residents, a supportive workplace for staff, and a welcoming gathering place for families for generations to come. Our grandparents first envisioned quality long-term care in this community more than 65 years ago, and we are proud to continue that legacy by investing in a modern, state-of-the-art home that will meet the evolving needs of residents and families across Gananoque and the surrounding area. We are deeply grateful to the Government of Ontario, the Town of Gananoque, and all of our partners, staff, residents, and families for their trust and support in bringing this vision to life,” said Lisa Gibson-Burgess Gibson Family Health Care.

The project will support approximately 215 jobs for the surrounding community, including 45 constructions jobs and 170 permanent, full-time positions in nursing, personal support work, nutrition services, programming and administration.

This new home is part of the Ontario government’s continued progress toward its commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province, as outlined in the 2026 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario. Through Ontario’s historic more than $223 billion plan to build, the province is investing in important infrastructure that supports workers, builds strong local economies and ensures people receive the quality of care they need and deserve.

“Congratulations to Gibson Family Health Care as we break ground on the expansion of Carveth Care Centre. For more than six decades, the Gibson Family has provided outstanding care to generations of residents, while also supporting our local economy with good-paying jobs.” said Steve Clark MPP, Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “I’m proud that Carveth is the fifth long-term care home being built or redeveloped in Leeds and Grenville under our government. With these 104 new beds in Gananoque, we’re continuing to deliver on our commitment to ensure the seniors who raised families here can find care close to their community.”
