Forthton – The 2026 season opener at the Brockville Ontario Speedway saw a great crowd and a full pit area with 6 classes on hand to kick off the year.

Mike Saunders was the dominant force in the 15 lap Mini Stock feature event. Saunders, who picked up his first career win last year, took the lead at the drop of the green and was never challenged. Behind him defending track champion Clayton Celovsky was looking to close in, however mechanical issues sidelined him near the end of the event. 2022 track champion Jamie Larocque had a great run through the field, getting second from Terry McClelland, but had some work to do to chase down the leader. On this night Mike Saunders was on point, taking the opening day win. Jamie Larocque, Terry McClelland, Maxx Steele and Charles Marchand completed the top 5.

Chris Raabe and Steve Bernier led the field to the start of the 50 lap Ogilvie’s Triples Crown Series opener for the DIRTCar 358 Modifieds with Raabe getting the edge over Bernier and Corey Wheeler. Raabe had a fast car was driving away from the field on a fast track. Bernier, the defending series champion tried everything to keep the leader close as the race approached the halfway point. The race was slowed but two yellows as Kyle Dingwall slowed in turn three, but returned to finish in the top 10. Defending track champion Tristan Draper also had problems on lap 30 but did return for a top 10 finish as well. Lucas Fuller and Lance Willix all had strong starts but fell out of the event with mechanical problems, which brought some new faces into the top 5. Bobby Herrington, who made his return to the Modifieds made his way to 4th with Johnathon Ferguson now 5th. Those two drivers had a great battle for position, swamping the spots for several laps. As the laps clicked off Chris Raabe continued to drive away from the field and on this night would march on to his 2nd straight season opener, his third Ogilvie’s win and 7th 358 Modified win at Brockville. Steve Bernier ran a strong second with Corey Wheeler, Johnathon Ferguson and Bobby Herrington the top 5.

Andrew Hennessy made his return to the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night, a memorable one as he led the early stages of the 20 lap Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints with Rick Wilson and Adam Turner right behind him. Hennessy would build up a big lead on the field while Wilson and Turner battled for the runner up spot through the entire event, as Lee Ladouceur and defending track champion Josh Verne Jr. were also on the move. With the race not seeing many yellow flags, Andrew Hennessy was able to get into a groove and would go unchallenged all night to score his first win since August of 2024 at the speedway. Rick Wilson, Adam Turner, Lee Ladouceur and Josh Verne Jr. completed the top 5.

2014 Ogilvie’s Series Sportsman Champion Shane Pecore took advantage of his outside pole starting spot to grab the lead in the 40 lap event, over Karl Potvin and Blake Smith. Pecore was running away from a quality field on this night but other contenders were on the move through the field. Jessica Power lost a few spots on the start but was rallying back, eventually getting to the runner up spot before halfway, with Dylan Kirkland and Gavin Eisele also making their way forward. Pecore had a fast car and could run anywhere he wanted which helped in lapped traffic, which he was able to navigate, while Power, Eisele and Kirkland were also looking to keep pace. With Pecore in front Gavin Eisele was in a battle for second with Jessica Power, which he would take away, but had a long way to o to catch the leader. At the finish Shane Pecore would keep his perfect season going, scoring his 7th career series win and 31st Sportsman win at Brockville. Gavin Eisele, Jessica Power, Dylan Kirkland and Trey Ladouceur made up the top5 at the finish.

The 15 lap Novice Sportsman feature was also exciting as Drake Cartier led early over Rhylan Poole, who was putting on the pressure in the early laps with Garin Thompson close by in the number three spot. Poole saw a great run go away with 5 laps to go, clipping an infield tire and breaking the front end on his ride. On the final restart this brought Garin Thompson into the mix as the top 2 battled for the win. At the finish Cartier would hold on to take the season opener, ahead of Thompson, Chris Wilson, Shaun Lafave and Landon Ryan.

The Street Stock division may not have had a large field but it did not lack in excitement. Stephane Philippe led the way but Todd Raabe took over the top spot on lap 3 and appeared to be on his way to another opening day win, but Stephane Philippe had other ideas. Over the final laps Stephane Philippe worked his way to the back bumper of the leader, which made the final lap one for the history books. As the top two headed into turn three Philippe took the lead by inches as Raabe stuck with the bottom. Off turn 4 Raabe slipped slightly and the two drivers made sight contact but at the finish both driver were able to keep their cars straight with Philippe winning the opener for a second straight year. Todd Raabe, Francis Gauthier, Brett Horner and JP Tremblay made up the top 5 at the finish.

Next week a full card of racing will be set to go with the good folks at Polite Sand and Gravel on hand. The Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club will join the DIRTCar 358 Modified and Sportsman, along with the Surprenant Truck shop Crate Sprints, Novice Sportsman and Mini Stocks. Racing begins at 7pm.
